“Within the last year, with the reclusiveness of pandemic life, I found myself inner-reflecting, analyzing, and searching for some kind of relief both physically and mentally more than usual. The monotony of daily life left me feeling somewhat empty and hollow. I've had a lifelong struggle with anxiety and depression and have found through the years that movement is the best medicine for me to heal. Through two daily practices/rituals, art and movement, I began the work of strengthening my exterior/body and interior/mind. These two practices began informing and reflecting each other.

The work became visual mantras and metaphors for the challenges I was experiencing or reflecting upon in daily life both personally and as a collective society. The compositions represent different forms of movement as energetic vibrations at various frequencies and amplitudes either joining, weaving, pivoting, rotating, or shifting together. The process of burning is slow and methodical, while the marks are both permanent and ephemeral. the work exists in an in-between state, just like our own existence. As we move forward, or perhaps back, to normalish routines and schedules, how do we collectively heal from the experiences of this past year? I believe it is a call to remember the fragility of our own lives, to live in each and every moment, to love one another, and stand up for what we believe in. We are all vessels that require love and kindness, empathy and joy. When we ourselves are full, we can then carry and transmit those virtues on to others.”
